At the suggestion of my 26 year old daughter Maddie, we purchased Parents Are Human - English & Tagalog for my mom who’s suffering from dementia. WOW! This deck is amazing! This is our way to reminisce with her and speak to her in her native language. Her speech therapist Ken suggests that we help her recall a long-term memory for just 10 minutes a day (like from her childhood, teens or young adulthood) because her long-term memory is the most intact. By stimulating a long-term memory, it also stimulates the pathways of her short-term memory and helps stave off the disease’s effect. We are so thankful for this beautifully designed deck - which creates a way to bond with our mother/grandmother - and helps us dig deep inside to find the love and emotions within her. I have used this with deck my parents as well as with friends and other relatives and it has been absolutely wonderful to get to know each other better. I have learned such wonderful family stories and how my parents, relatives and friends see themselves and their lives. It has been a gift to learn more about them and share about my life as well.

This product is great. It gives me a chance to learn about my mom before she became a parent, and level up our adult relationship.

My MIL lost her husband about a year ago, right before our wedding. That's when I decided to purchase Parents are Humans to collect and cherish more memories with her. Last Christmas at a hospital, my MIL and I initiated our deepest and darkest (and sometimes the brightest) tales with this question on card- "What was the toughest decision you've made in your life?" To me, this card deck helps put my MIL in a whole, positively different perspective.

I often use this during our family dinners and it really opens up the conversations and allows us to learn more about each other. Highly recommend!!

We live on the other side of the planet from my parents, so my kids don’t get to see their grandparents as often as we’d like. Over the summer, I set up weekly calls between my 11 year old and his grandpa where my son would ask my dad one question from the deck and then write down the "interview" to memorialize their conversations (also to practice his English writing!). My son has also been studying Korean, and the deck is such a great way for him to practice his Korean with family and begin to close some of the communication gaps that exist between him and the Korean speaking members of our family. It has been an incredible experience for all of us. My mom continuously tells me that these conversations have made their feel Jung (정) for the kids grow exponentially. I am so grateful that this game was translated into Korean and given us this opportunity to connect across generations and distance in such a deeply thoughtful and engaging way. I'm a first-gen Chicana with a partner outside of my culture. Using the Parents are Human deck was a beautiful way to kick off the new year and learn more about my mother-in-law.
