Some of Our Favorite Stories

I have to tell you: I brought the deck home these past few days, and both times I’ve used it, I’ve learned way more about my parents in the thirty minutes we used the deck than the 24 years I’ve been on this earth and interacted with them. — Ruth W

We [played] for like three hours, and during those three hours were some of most peaceful and connected times that I would feel with my parents. We were just in a state of curiosity, of wonder, of empathy, of vulnerability.

I remember just afterwards, I would just be sitting in bliss and be like, oh my gosh, the world is all right. There’s nothing wrong right now with the world. Everything is just as it should be. Everything is harmonious. — David Hu

I love my parents. My mom (pictured) spends 90% of our conversations giving me unsolicited work advice. Work is her passion and she excels at it, so naturally she wants to help me.

We’ve been stuck in a cycle; each time I visit home I’m guilty of tuning out within the first 10 minutes of her taking about work.

I bought these cards on a whim and have been using them to prompt our dinner conversations.

My parents love it. Cue reminiscing, story time, a lot of laughter.

(It’s also helped me be more patient and present when my mom does talk about work 😉) — Emily Cheng

We started with one question, “What is the most impactful book you ever read?” and it led to a 1+ hour conversation.

My mother spoke about a book on fear and then related why it was so impactful.

She then told in detail an event where she was attacked at work.

I’ve heard the story before but there were certain details I forgot about and it was really interesting to hear it again.

I have so much respect for her. — Ryan Lum

I tried out the game with my mom and it’s amaaazing.

It’s been such a long time since we were able to connect on the same wavelength, where she didn’t feel the pressure to “parent”.

I was able to understand her in many more identities that I was familiar with, as daughters to our parents, as professionals, as women. We’re scheduling another time to keep going through the series.

She’s pretty stoked about it too. It’s the first time in a while since we’ve had such an intensely meaningful mom-daughter bonding experience. — Judy Zhu

Over the moon that this exists.

We’re finally sharing stories and questions we’ve carried for years, but just didn’t know how to ask. — Chrislyn Choo

Wow

I wasn’t sure my parents would be up for it… amazing what a little permission from a deck of cards can do.

Amazing resource

Two cards in and I’m already learning more about my mom than I have in years. Excited for the possibilities ahead.

It brought my friends and family together

I got this for my boyfriend. He hasn’t spoken to his mother for a year. This game made her cry. Thank you so much.

— Michelle Hoang

My family is Taiwanese and we aren’t accustomed to ask each other about our days, even though every night as a child we always had dinner together.

I used this deck over Thanksgiving and it was literally the most we’ve ever connected outside of eating together and hiking.

My favourite memory during this pandemic is playing Parents Are Human with my parents over video call.

Through asking these questions that I have never asked before, I got to know them even better!

— Angela D

Our family played your game Parents Are Human and it started a whole world wind of deeper conversations and we all bawled our eyes out.

Are there more languages coming? (Polish wanted)

I’m devastated that I don’t see a polish version yet- I’m dying to get this for my mother and I.

Hi Dabski,

I'm absolutely delighted to share that we have an English + Polish edition of Parents Are Human now!! You can find it in the language dropdown.

We spent this past year working with over two dozen familes to create our Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, German, and Polish editions and we couldn't be more proud to be serving these communities now.

Your request made this possible so I wanted to reach out right away to let you know and to thank you. 🙏❤️

Much love,
Joseph Lam

Best investment I’ve ever made.

My parents lived through a chaotic time in China’s history, but they never really talked about it until we started playing with these cards. What a wonderful thing it was to learn new things about my parents. My mother mentioned that she really appreciated that it was the first real conversation we’ve had. Hopefully, it won’t be the last. I can’t recommend these enough.

A fun way to share your story without kids rolling their eyes

I'm so happy to come across this game. Initially, I meant to use it so we could have Grandma talk more about her history, but I found that I was also sharing my story with my kids. It was such a gratifying experience to feel heard. I also love that it's fun and the kids don't feel like I'm making them listen to our stories. Good way to get them off their devices and open up about themselves, too!

Worth it

I’ve tried a few of these sets of cards from other producers and these are definitely the best. Even if other decks have a few good questions, there are never more than two or three, and the best of them aren’t as good as most of these. We didn’t even bother with the mechanics of the game aspect, we just went through a bunch of the cards and got more out of it than we ever have.

Wonderful! The transliteration was great for the hindi. The questions were both fun and sentimental. There was natural conversations happening after each person’s response. This game helps people feel seen and heard. Beautiful idea! This game will be a staple at family parties.

Special Moments Recorded

It was so nice to sit and talk with my mom about her experiences as a little girl. My sister and I recorded her reading the questions in Thai and answering them in English. It was quite special.

Grief is not only human but also hard - especially for kids.

I bought the "Grief is Human" card pack because I lost my husband on 06/08/2022 to a fentanyl overdose. We have two boys - a 12 year old and a 3 year old who were 11 and 1 at the time of his death.
My oldest has always had a hard time processing his emotions so when his dad died, it was even harder. Not to mention the court battle that ensued over him as I am not my son's biological mother.

I brought this game to a join session with his therapist and myself and we played. The therapist loved it so much that she bought it for her office!

It's a very nice game especially during this hard season. The holidays are always the hardest and I plan on playing this with my family at Christmas too.

I wanted to add that the shipping was super fast too. Great quality game.

Helped make a Covid Christmas so much better

This game is great. My girlfriend and I had Covid while at my parents’ home for Christmas this year. We had to isolate from everyone else and it was a bummer but we played this on Christmas morning over breakfast (in two separate rooms where we could see each other through a window and hear each other over speakerphone) and ended up actually having fun and feeling surprisingly connected considering the loneliness of covid quarantining. It also ended up being a great way for my girlfriend and my parents to get to know each other!

Surprisingly Effective!

I purchased this for my partner and I, with the expectations that it will either: collect dust in our storage (like most other "connection" card sets), or open my partner and I up to having deeper conversations like we did when we first started dating. I'm elated to say that the latter happened!!!! My partner is a tough critic on things like this, but he's now encouraging us to pull a card randomly! I highly highly recommend :) PS: The customer support was OUTSTANDING!!!!!! Please support this beautiful family <3

My family loved this!

I brought These cards over for Xmas and left them on the table. I didn’t have the chance to even open them and see what they were about, next thing I know everyone is sitting around asking and answering questions. It was so sweet and special - everyone loved them and it just brought us closer. I highly Recommend these cards!!

Really loved it

I bought this for my partner - who was skeptical when I pulled the cards out after a long Wednesday of work, cleaning, driving kids around etc. 2 hours and a couple glasses of wine later we were laughing and remembering all sorts of funny adventures we have had - every couple should own these.

Beautiful

Parents Are Human: I must admit that I have not been able to utilize these card on my own parent has he felt intimidated by the idea, but I am confident he would have answered the questions if he never noticed the cards. Despite my thwarted effort this time as, I WILL be trying again, I can see and feel - not just the professional quality of the cards/game - but the immense heart, love, and care that was intricately poured in thought towards this idea. •• Siblings Are Human: Perfectly crafted in a way that has allowed our hearts and minds to open. I can say, with my sister and I being 9 years apart, that now our perspectives are no longer so.

Great for Building new connections

I bought the Parents are Human & Partners are Human pack. So far me and my partner have gotten to know so many special things about each other because the cards spark up new conversations in our decade old relationship.

Fun and makes my family slow down and appreciate life

Great Tool to Strengthen Bond With Your Children!

I’ve enjoyed going through this deck so far and reading the questions out loud to the kiddos in my life. It’s allowed me to get to know them better on a personal level by asking questions about their opinions on a wide range of topics they relate to. Highly recommend!

Thought Provoking and Entertaining

With our wedding coming up soon I bought this to play with my fiance because it sounded interesting. We started playing while casually watching football and before we realized it was 4am. It stimulated conversation in areas we previously had only lightly touched and more, especially regarding life events before we met, the way we were raised, and how those things impact us now. It turned out to be a tool to broach difficult subjects as well as get the wheels turning about things we never thought of.

Definitely worth it!

I've always struggled with communicating with anyone in my life, let alone my partner.. him and I just pulled a few cards out to ask last night and even though it was a little uncomfortable for me to have those conversations, I know it's helping us on the right track to learning more about each other and being able to openly speak our thoughts, ideas, and feelings with each other. I'm looking forward to pulling out a few more cards next time!

You Don’t Know Until You Ask

I played this game with about 11 of my friends (5 girls and 6 guys) - with 4 couples in the group! We began playing as a group of 4 girls and were immediately learning things we had never known in our 7 years of friendship. Then everyone else joined in on the game and we ended our night feeling more like family than friends. Since that night we’ve brought this game to several of our other hangouts and it really has been a wonderful opportunity to learn about and love each other more deeply. I wouldn’t have ever known as much about my friends as I do now until Friends Are Human helped me find the words to ask. Definitely 5/5 stars. Can’t wait to play all the other ones!

An Amazing Connecting Resource

I highly recommend this card game to anyone who is interested in connecting or reconnecting with their families.

While I purchased the Thai to English version to connect with my mother, I have played this game with my English speaking partner and other family members, as well.

The game is incredibly versatile and sparks conversations beyond its initial prompts; it has been an investment into my family's well-being and mental health!

Tried at Christmas with grandma and it was fun and a learning experience to see how everyone reacted - and their response to her.

Connect

I purchased Multiple decks to help me connect with my Friends, Parents, Partner and Spanish group. It is an easy way to get to know someone better without having to keep track of a bunch of resources and notes or lists. I plan on using them to form deeper connections with my friends, family, and the people at church. I like that the Spanish version has both formal and informal translations, because you never know what someone’s preference is. It will be a great teaching and learning tool!
